Level 3 Learning Outcomes – Research Project

Year 1

Outcome 3.RP.1: Develop a research question and formulate an investigative process which addresses thequestion

Outcome 3.RP.2: Select a supervision team and develop a working relationship to enable successful completion of the research

Outcome 3.RP.3: Critically evaluate the research literature relevant to the project

Outcome 3.RP.4: Identify the ethical issues associated with different research projects and work with the supervision team to generate an ethics application to undertake your research if required

Outcome 3.RP.5: Describe the research background, hypothesis and investigative strategy

Outcome 3.RP.6: Develop an organization strategy (timeline) to enable a successful research project

Year 2

Outcome 3.RP.7: Generate new scientific knowledge and communicate novel findings to an audience, or to a clinical or scientific readership

Outcome 3.RP.8: Generate a brief summation of the research project to highlight the aims, strategy, justification of the work and its impact

Outcome 3.RP.9: Critically evaluate the research findings of others, and use the literature in the field to provide a justification for the research

Outcome 3.RP.10: Address a research hypothesis by posing clear and relevant research questions and objectives

Outcome 3.RP.11: Describe and understand methodologies required to appropriately answer specific research questions

Outcome 3.RP.12: Collect, record and collate data using appropriate research tools

Outcome 3.RP.13: Present research data using figures, tables or other means as befits the specific research field

Outcome 3.RP.14: Critically evaluate your own research and present the ideas in a scientific context

Outcome 3.RP.15: Where appropriate, use correct statistical analysis to assess whether the data supports or refutes the research hypothesis

Outcome 3.RP.16: Detail the limitations or shortcomings of the research study undertaken

Outcome 3.RP.17: Describe how the findings of the project field fit into the broader research field

Outcome 3.RP.18: Report research findings in a manner formatted to the standards of a scientific or medical journal

Outcome 3.RP.19: Use appropriate resources, including electronic and library databases, to review an area of interest

Outcome 3.RP.20: Demonstrate the ability to write a scientific report in a clear, concise and fluent style with good syntax
