Outcome 4.9.141: Red flags;

  • Vomiting
  • Excessive drooling (infants)
  • Bile stained vomitus
  • Delayed passage meconium
  • Projectile vomiting
  • Failure to thrive/weight loss
  • Coffee ground emesis
  • Hematemesis
  • History NSAIDs
  • Signs and symptoms of moderate to severe dehydration
  • Diarrhoea
  • Signs of moderate to severe hypotension – hypotension, altered level of consciousness, tachycardia, sunken fontanelle (infants), delayed capillary refill, reduced urine output
  • Blood in stool
  • Recent history of antibiotics
  • Recent travel to developing country
  • Signs acute abdomen
  • Anemia
  • Abdominal mass
  • Failure to respond to treatment
