Learning Outcome 4.12.17

Outcome 4.12.17: Know the criteria any medical professional can use for involuntary detention that are generally common to state Mental Health Act’s in Australia, i.e.:

  • Refusal of psychiatric treatment
  • Likeliness of rapid deterioration of mental state
  • Lack of capacity to give informed consent for psychiatric treatment
  • Need for immediate psychiatric treatment in order to protect from deterioration in health OR to protect the community from violence
